Alpine Aquaculture and Keeton Industries have constructed a small indoor aquaculture research system in Wellington, Colorado. The purpose of the project to study both shrimp and fish aquaculture systems production and the influence of probiotics and microbial populations in development of bio-floc in maintaining water quality and system performance.
Alpine Aquaculture principals are Scott Hayes, Jim Keeton (Keeton Industries), Richard Seaworth (Seaworth Farms) and Brad Pomeroy of Wellington Operating Company. One of the big breakthroughs of the project is a new filtration system for filtering oil field Cretaceous water and purifying to the point where it can be used for aquaculture or even drinking water.
Northern Colorado Tilapia
Salt water tilapia raised at 7 part per thousand is the current project. Microbes and probiotics are added to maintain bio-floc. Samples are taken to the Keeton bio lab where Dr. Becky Rivoire is analyzing samples to study effect and species effectiveness to maintain water quality with minimum biofiltration.
